Projekt: In Situ
Brandl zog 2014 nach Afrika. Bei seiner Ankunft an der Südküste Kenias fühlte er sich überwältigt von der schieren Grandezza der Elemente – Land, Ozean, Himmel. So entstand In Situ, das dieses Gefühl ausdrückt.
Die Aufnahmen entstanden allesamt an den Stränden von Diani Beach. Sie zeigen das Leben, die Natur, deren Weite und Größe.

Project: In Situ
In 2014 Brandl moved to Africa. Upon his arrival on Kenya’s South Coast he felt overwhelmed by the sheer grandezza of the elements – land, sea, airs. Thus In Situ came into existence expressing this feeling.
The photographs were all taken on the beaches of Diani. They depict life, the nature, its width and size.

Über den Künstler
Christoph Brandl ist Fotograf und Autor. Er hat Visual Arts an der New York Universität studiert. In seiner Karriere experimentiert er vorwiegend mit mixed media, u.a. dekorierte er in prä-digitalen Zeiten Wände in New Yorks U-Bahn mit Fotocollagen. Nach 12 Jahren im Ausland kehrte er im Jahr 2000 nach Berlin zurück, wo er seinen Stil entwickelte, bei dem er Fotoserien mit geschriebenen Geschichten verbindet. In Situ ist sein drittes Projekt in Kenia. Sein zweites kenianisches Projekt, In Limbo, wurde im Oktober 2015 in der Diani Beach Art Gallery gezeigt und wurde mit dem prestigeträchtigen Kuona Trust Digital Photography Award 2015 in Nairobi prämiert. Sein erstes Kenianisches Projekt, Getting Smart, gewann den zweiten Preis bei einer Ausstellung im Schlossmuseum von Schramberg, Deutschland.

Artist’s informations
Christoph Brandl is a photographer and a writer, who received a BA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in New York. Throughout his career he experimented with mixed media, among other projects in pre-digital times he decorated New York’s subway walls with photo collages. After 12 years of working abroad he moved back to Berlin, Germany, in the year 2000, where he developed his style further. Often he combines photo series with written stories. In Situ is third project in Kenya after Getting Smart and In Limbo, which was showing in the Diani Beach Art Gallery (until the end of October 2015). In 2015 he won the prestigious Kenyan Digital Photography Award.
